The co-extrusion process combines two or more different materials in a single extrusion process. Two or more extruders deliver the desired plastics to a single extrusion head, or die, to manufacture the part. The materials can be combined or layered, using different compounds for the layers. Characteristics and applications of soft PVC
Most of the soft PVC is produced with high molecular weight PVC resin, that is, most of them are produced with SG4 type and above resins. Soft PVC contains more plasticizers, its softness, elongation at break, cold resistance increase. Soft texture, good air tightness and water impermeability. Although the electrical insulation is somewhat reduced due to the addition of plasticizers, but very high electrical insulation is still maintained. Brittleness, hardness, and tensile strength are reduced. Soft PVC is mainly used in wire and cable, agricultural film, packaging film, industrial film, hose, artificial leather, plastic shoes, etc. Due to the advantages of PE film compared with PVC film in terms of processing and anti-aging and the development of resin technology and processing technology, PVC agricultural film is gradually withdrawing from the market. The processing of soft PVC mainly adopts extrusion, calendering and other processing methods, and a small part adopts injection molding.
Characteristics and application of rigid PVC
Most of the rigid PVC production is produced by low molecular weight PVC, and basically all use SG5 and below grade PVC resin. Rigid PVC does not contain or contain a small amount of plasticizer, and has good tensile, flexural and compressive properties. Therefore, it can be used as a structural material alone; such as corrugated boards for construction, doors and windows, wall decorations, etc. PVC has excellent chemical resistance and can be used as chemical anti-corrosion material; mainly used for anti-corrosion pipelines, pipe fittings, oil pipelines, centrifugal pumps, blowers, etc. The rigid board of polyvinyl chloride is widely used in the chemical industry to make the lining of various storage tanks. Excellent electrical insulating properties, suitable for insulating materials; therefore, it is used in plugs, switches and sockets.
